Audio Textural Bodies was performed by Emma Lanier + Cauveri Suresh, who were commissioned to respond to the exhibits on display at Catharine Clark Gallery. Audio Textural Bodies responded to works of members of Black Mountain College and utilized score, task, repetition, and interrogation of form—tools of postmodernism that span across mediums.

Reniel Del Rosario’s Exist Through the Gift Shop was our first experience with Del Rosario’s work, which immediately became a source of inspiration for Audio Textural Bodies. Our choreographic process, scoring and creating puzzles to solve, was inspired by the vividness of Del Rosario’s storytelling within a single ceramic object. We identified common ground—familiarity with postmodernism and the playfulness of Del Rosario’s critique—and created an entire section of the evening-length performance with movement sourced from his work.
